About me
Kris Shouse is the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services at the San Mateo County Office of Education. A long-time educator and advocate for youth-centered education and support, Ms. Shouse leads the County Office of Education’s work to create safe and supportive schools, improve school climate, and prepare students for success upon graduation. Since arriving in San Mateo County in 2022, she has led a strategic planning process for the County Office of Education’s school programs; initiated a safe schools anonymous reporting app across the county; established the Launch Institute, which brings together students and staff to elevate student voice and create student-centered schools and educational systems; and elevated and expanded Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)and Social-Emotional Learning initiatives across the county. Prior to joining the County Office of Education, Ms. Shouse served as Assistant Superintendent in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. Over her lengthy career in education she has served and supported; elementary, middle, and high school levels. In 2022 Ms. Shouse was recognized by the California Legislative Assembly and the City of Watsonville for her leadership and advocacy in establishing programs to increase students’ belonging and well-being. Ms. Shouse was also recently named the 2024 ACSA Region 5 Administrator of the Year for Career Technical Education. Prior to being a teacher, site administrator, and district and county leader, she began her dedication to youth as a Program Director with the YMCA and a Deputy Probation Counselor. She continues to use her experiences to address the inequities in student access to quality programming.
