R. Tolteka Cuauhtin (he/him) is a nationally recognized Ethnic Studies and social justice educational leader, born and raised on the unceded ancestral lands of the Tataviam and Tongva (Los Angeles, California). He is one of the most influential framers of K12 Ethnic Studies in the field, as well as a leading organizer for Ethnic Studies in local, state level, and national advocacy initiatives. He is the conceiver and co-editor of, Rethinking Ethnic Studies (2019), the most widely used Ethnic Studies Teachers' text in the United States.
Tolteka is the recipient of National Association of Ethnic Studies (AES), Charles Irby Distinguished Service Award, "the highest award given by AES, bestowed to an individual who has achieved distinction in their own professional life and community, who has demonstrated commitment to the goals and ideals of AES, and who has shown leadership qualities in the organization and in the field of Ethnic Studies".
