About me
Proudly descended from generations of workers, Héctor Camacho (he/him/él) serves as a community leader in the fight for greater access to education and economic justice at the local, state, and national levels. He currently works as Executive Director, Equity, Social Justice, and Inclusion at the San Mateo County Office of Education.
Héctor served as a trustee on the San Mateo County Board of Education for 11 years, elected to three consecutive terms as board president. In 2020, Héctor co-founded the REACH Coalition of San Mateo County, a partnership between elected officials of color and community-based organizations advocating for community health, and sits on the board of directors. He previously served as President of the San Mateo County School Boards Association, Vice President of the California County Boards of Education, an elected delegate to the California Democratic Party, and a member of the Stanford Graduate School of Education Inclusion Council. Most recently, he was appointed to the South San Francisco Library Board and the Ravenswood Education Foundation Board of Directors.
Originally from Los Angeles, Héctor relocated with his family to the Bay Area at a young age and attended local public schools before becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree. He went on to obtain a master’s degree in education from Stanford University and has worked with high school-aged students as a bilingual aide, classroom teacher, guidance counselor, and school administrator.
